The College of Arts and Law Academic Writing Advisory Service

Academic Writing Advisory Service (AWAS) is a dedicated service for all CAL students.

Academic Writing Advisory Service

AWAS provides advice on a myriad of topics surrounding academic writing and academic practices. They offer a combination of support in the form of:

  • lectures and small-group workshops co-taught with academic staff or led by members of the AWAS Tutor team
  • individual tutorials conducted face to face, or via platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams
  • feedback comments on your work via Email
  • and, online lectures and workshops about different academic writing topics

Further details on booking a tutorial and the AWAS event schedule can be found on their homepage.

AWAS on Canvas

AWAS also has its own Resource Hub of online self-access materials for independent study where you can find a breakdown of different topics related to academic writing. There are activities and exercises designed to help you at every stage of the process, from reading the question to the final edit, with particular reference to the marking criteria used to assess your work.
