Welcome new students to the College of Arts and Law

Regular communications from your School from mid-August onwards will mark the next step on your journey towards the University of Birmingham, and the degree waiting for you at the end.

CAL Summer Education Support Gateway

Canvas is the online platform that is used for teaching here at UoB, and we've created an open-access Canvas course called the CAL Summer Education Support Gateway for new students to access in advance with lots of information to help prepare you over the coming weeks. We'll be highlighting important links each week, but you can also explore it by yourself.

As we near the start of term, you'll be given access to other Canvas pages where you’ll find information about your modules and how you will be taught.

About the College of Arts and Law

The University has five Colleges. Your College (Arts and Law) is made up of five Schools.  Within each School, there are one or more Departments. Departments own the programmes that students apply to study on. If you are an undergraduate, you may have two departments if you are studying on a 'Joint Honours' programme (e.g. BA English / History). This may also mean that you reap the benefits of being in two Schools (e.g. EDACS and SHaC)!"The university has five Colleges.  Your College (Arts and Law) is made up of five Schools.  Within each School, there are one or more Departments.  Departments own the programmes that students apply to study on.  If you are an undergraduate, you may have two departments if you are studying on a 'Joint Honours' programme (e.g. BA English / History).
