Who it is suitable for

This session is suitable for those new to teaching at the University. The session may also serve as a useful refresher for those who have not used Canvas for some time. No formal knowledge or experience of using a virtual learning environment is required.

Participants should have a basic understanding of an internet browser (recommended browsers are Firefox and Google chrome). Participants may find it useful to work through Building a Canvas module bite size course prior to signing up for this session.

Content

This training programme is designed to help you to develop and design a Canvas module. We will guide you through the log-in process followed by a quick overview of the dashboard and the navigation settings. You will then undertake a series of hands-on activities that will help to you to plan and build your Canvas modules. The session will conclude with a short plenary and sign-posting for continuing support.


By the end of the session participants will have:

  • An overview of what Canvas can do
  • An understanding of how to navigate a Canvas module
  • Create a Canvas Page
  • Create a Canvas Module
  • Use the Rich Content Editor to add files, images and videos.

Time permitting, participants will have an Optional task on:

  • Creating and sending an announcement
  • Identifying who and where their users are
