Who it is suitable for
This session is suitable for those new to teaching at the University or those new to supporting the administration of canvas courses. The session may also serve as a useful refresher for those who have not used Canvas for some time. No formal knowledge or experience of using a virtual learning environment is required.
Participants should have a basic understanding of an internet browser. Participants may find it useful to work through the Introduction to Canvas bite size course prior to signing up for this session.
This training programme is designed to introduce you to the fundamentals of Canvas, the University’s preferred virtual learning environment.
You will be quickly guided through the logging in process and introduced to the user interface. You will also be introduced to the most commonly used features of Canvas, such as assignment, quiz and discussion, before undertaking a series of differentiated activities that will provide you with a true hands-on experience of using the course tools. The session will conclude with a short plenary and sign-posting for continuing support.
By the end of the session participants will have:
- Gained an understanding of the purpose of Canvas.
- Have successfully navigated the Canvas learning environment.
- Set up an account profile.
- Personalised their notification preferences.
- Used and applied a range of global tools.
- Downloaded and configured the Canvas App.
- Gained insight and formed ideas of how Canvas could be best used to support teaching and learning.
