Deputy Senior Clerk at Forensic Equity Limited
BA English and Philosophy
What does your role involve?
Managing and instructing our scientists, organising post-mortems, liaising and requesting files from prosecuting forensic science providers, proof reading reports, regular contact with criminal defence solicitors including giving advice and explaining how we can help etc.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
No day is ever the same - due to the nature of the work I am dealing with something new every day and the content is always interesting.
What’s most challenging?
Time management, due to the nature of the company, deadlines are more important than ever as it can have severe impacts. Additionally, it can be difficult juggling and keeping on top of all the cases we do.
How did your time at Birmingham help prepare you for this role?
It provided me with good communicative and writing skills which are imperative for every day communications.
What advice would you give to students interested in your industry or role?
Whilst a degree is helpful, many of my part time jobs were helpful in preparing me, especially in relation to dealing with different kinds of people in real life. Also IT skills are a must; I spent a lot of time trying to brush up on that instead of learning how to do my job so a little practise would go a long way and also makes you come across as more capable at interviews.
