PSA student of the year nominee video transcript Charlie Feighan

Title: PSA Student of the Year Nominee 2018 Charlie Feighan

Duration: 2:19

My name is Charlie Feighan, I am a third and final year Geology student, and I completed the PSA Advanced.

Why did you enrol onto the PSA?

I wanted a way to make myself stand out by taking part in other activities as I have done with the PSA. I also wanted a way to increase my employability through taking part in other activities alongside my studies. I also wanted to gain confidence in these areas as well.

How have you benefited from undertaking the award?

By completing the PSA I definitely gained confidence in various skills such as communication and self-awareness through modules on the PSA such as ‘Presenting Yourself with Impact’, which has allowed me to also gain experience in a presentation environment which can be applied to future jobs. And also taking part in mock interviews as well has allowed me to gain valuable feedback on this before going into the recruitment stage, so that has been very helpful.

I would say firstly just do it because it’s actually amazing how easily the activities you do can add up to gain you points, so for example just taking part in societies, or maybe being on a committee (that gains you points), external work experience, and also it just has definitely increased my confidence by taking part in additional activities, so I have recently been part of the ‘Consultancy Challenge’ that the University organises, and it’s really helped me with team working as well and also presentation skills - so it’s definitely something worthwhile doing. And it’s also something that will be on your transcript to put you ahead of other people, so it will be recognised by employers.
