Lecture Capture and Whiteboard Capture

Using Panopto software, Lecture Capture records audio and projection feeds to allow students to revisit lecture content at a later date. Phase 2: Whiteboard Capture aimed to provide a more complete Lecture Capture experience by installing a solution which allows whiteboard and blackboard content to be captured.

The Academic Services Project Team project managed the Lecture Capture and Whiteboard Capture project.

Collaborative Teaching Laboratory (CTL)

A unique and exceptional facility, the Collaborative Teaching Laboratory (CTL) is a hub for science & engineering teaching, with multifunctional labs suitable for subject-specific and cross-disciplinary teaching and team working. It represents an investment of over £40m across two distinct phases in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects.

The Academic Services Project Team programme managed the Collaborative Teaching Laboratory project which opened in October 2018.

The Main Library Project

In September 2016, the new Main Library opened at the centre of the University of Birmingham. The New Main Library provides a more efficient use of space, energy and resource; it is capable of providing 24/7 access to services and facilities; there are a variety of learning spaces and flexible, technology rich training rooms and state-of-the-art designated research areas.

The Academic Services Project Team worked with Strategic Change on the move to the new Library, supporting and providing assurance to the Senior Management Team of Library Services. The Team provided a degree of external challenge and robustness to the project, encompassing the build, service design, collections, decant and ITS. They worked closely with a number of project managers and work stream leads to provide structure to enable staff to engaege more broadley on proposals.

The Hub Services Integration Project (HSIP)

HSIP involved the centralisation of key student services in one of our most iconic buildings, together with an overhaul of student enquiry management systems. The project saw the procurement and implementation of KANA Express, an enquiry management system, and NetPractise queue management software.  This new customer service model, combined with the impressively refurbished Student Hub reception, has massively improved the student experience for those accessing these vital services.

The Academic Services Project Team played a pivotal role in facilitating the physical refurbishment of, and subsequent rehoming of staff to, the Student Hub based in Aston Webb C Block.

The Birmingham Project

The Birmingham Project was a flagship project of the Curriculum Review in 2012. The interdisciplinary project is exclusivley for first year UG students and was piloted in 2013 with just 60 students taking part. It has been growing in participation and popularity ever since, with over 300 students participating in 2018.

The Academic Services Project Team were instrumental in the creation and development of the success story that you see today, working alongside academic staff and engaging effectively with external businesses for sponsorship. In 2017 Careers Network took over the management of the project.
