About the library

The Barnes Library occupies three floors in the central block of the Medical School.  The library supports staff and students in the subject areas of medicine, biosciences, health sciences and sport.

Facilities

Study spaces

Individual study spaces can be found on the first floor,  and group study spaces are on the second floor.

On the ground floor the entrance to the library is next to the College’s Doug Ellis Learning Hub, which provides a small pc cluster and spaces for individual and group study.

Computers

Networked PCs for individual study are available on the first floor. You will need your Active Directory username and password to log in.

Wireless network 

There is wireless access on the ground and first floor of the library.

Photocopying and printing 

There are two Multifunctional Devices (MFDs) on the first floor and one in the High Demand Collection on the ground floor, all of which allow printing, photocopying and scanning to University email addresses.

Our managed print system allows you to collect your printing from any of our MFDs and to print from your own laptop or mobile device.  See our main printing, photocopying and scanning page for more information.

Anatomy Resource Room   

This room contains a full set of anatomy models, and is available for medical students to book as individuals or in groups. Please ask at the Information Desk for details. 

Collections

The Barnes Library contains the main subject collections in the areas of medicine, health sciences, biosciences and sport. 

  • Ground floor - Library service desk and High Demand Collection (current editions of books). 
  • First floor - Stack Collection (older editions of books)
  • Second floor - group study space

Disability support

 

All libraries and resource centres offer the following services:

  • Book fetching
  • Stock transfer
  • Assistive software on all PCs

N.B. Aside from assistive software, the above services are available in the Barnes Library 09:00 - 17.00, Monday to Friday
