About the library

The Education Library is located in the School of Education building.

Please note that the Education Library will close permanently at 5pm on Friday 3 June

Work to construct a new Main Library for the University is entering its final stages and the process of relocating the Education Library's collections and services will begin in earnest once the exams are over. Unfortunately there will be a lot of disruption and this can’t be avoided. To find out more please go to the New Library Project pages where there is detailed information.

Study spaces

Individual study spaces can be found on all floors of the library.

Group study rooms

The Education Library also has 2 group study rooms, G28 and G29, that can be used by students or staff. The rooms can be booked (one booking slot per group per day), for up to a two hour slot. Both rooms will accommodate up to 15 people. G29 also has a PC, monitor, and a large Smart Board that can be used for teaching practice or presentations.

PCs for individual study and searching the library catalogue are available throughout the library. You will need your Active Directory username and password to log in.

Wireless network

There is wireless access throughout the library and many hotspots are available at other locations across campus.

Photocopying and printing

Black and white photocopying and printing are available, and operate via the charged printing system. Find out about photocopying and printing.

The Education Library collection contains books, periodicals, theses, statistics and government publications in the field of education, with particular emphasis on education for special needs.

The present collection is a development of the merger in 1967 between the previously separate libraries of the University of Birmingham Department of Education and of the Institute of Education.
