FindIt@Bham guide

What is FindIt@Bham?

FindIt@Bham is the  one stop shop search system for the library. You can search and discover print and audiovisual material, e-journals, e-books and databases as well as journal article level content. It also includes content from the University’s research repository, UBIRA.

Do I need to log in on campus?

Access is available on campus to a majority of the library's collections without signing in to FindIt@Bham. However it is recommended that you sign in at the start of your session to ensure you are retrieving all possible results and preventing further authentication requests. Select Sign in located in the top right hand corner of the FindIt@Bham homepage. It will then ask you for your username and password, enter your Active Directory Account/Portal username and password. 

Can I access FindIt@Bham off campus?

Off campus access is available to search and browse FindIt@Bham without signing in. However it will not be possible to link out to electronic content without signing in. It is therefore recommended that you sign in at the start of your session for seamless access and to ensure you are retrieving all possible results and preventing further authentication requests. Select Sign in located in the top right hand corner of the FindIt@Bham homepage. It will then ask you for your username and password, enter your Active Directory Account/Portal username and password. 

Do I need to sign out?

It is important that you sign out of FindIt@Bham and all of your browser pages after you have finished your session so that your searches remain private and your personal settings and basket are not tampered with by anyone else.

If you have logged into the FindIt@Bham or your library account you need, click where it says Sign out on the top right hand side of the FindIt@Bham screen. An Exit Confirmation pop-up box will appear, select Exit.

It is particularly important if you are on a shared cluster PC to close all of your browser pages on your computer and log out of the PC for a new user session. 

How can I check my library account?

Your library account is at the top right hand side of the FindIt@Bham screen. Signing in to FindIt@Bham will automatically sign you in to your library account or you can sign in when you select library account.  Here you can view the list of items you have on loan, renew items and check fines. Also within your library account you can view your e-Shelf. 

What is the e-Shelf?

The e-Shelf lists items that you find during your FindIt@Bham session. To add items to your e-Shelf, select the star icon next to an item in your search results. This is then added to a basket in your e-Shelf. You can also save a whole page of results by selecting 'Add page to e-Shelf' listed near the top of the left hand column. Please note you must be signed in to save items in e-Shelf for future sessions.  

How can I search for items on my reading list?

In FindIt@Bham you can search by reading list, module code, item title, and lecturer. Within a particular item record you will also see listed in the locations tab if the item is part of a reading list, this will then link back to the full reading list.
