Updated NIHR open access policy

The new NIHR open access policy is now available  from the NIHR Policy and Standards web site. You can find out more details about the policy on our funders page.

The policy brings the NIHR approach to open access more in line with other funders of medical research such as MRC and Wellcome.

To ensure compliance we recommend authors make your research available via the ‘green’ open access route by depositing the accepted final draft manuscript in UBIRA, providing any embargo period required by the publisher does not exceed six months. More information about 'green' open access can be found on the University open access webpages.

Authors may be able to pay the publisher for 'gold' open access, but will need to contact their NIHR Programme Coordinating Centre for payment guidance.

If you have any queries about this policy please contact the Digital Assets team at openaccesspublications@contacts.bham.ac.uk
