Welcome to Library Services

Students working together in a library

Library Services extends a warm welcome to all new and returning students for the forthcoming academic year 2013/2014.

Download our Welcome programme (PDF - 978KB) to find out about all the services we offer.

Getting started

During your first few weeks of study we recommend that you take some time to get to know our libraries. You will need to know how to find/borrow books, how to access electronic journals and other resources and where to locate the Academic Skills Centre so you can get help with your studies. Join one of the library tours, or visit Getting Started to see what we can offer .

Help with your subject

Our information desks offer a wide range of general support to new students and in each subject an expert Subject Advisor can give you tailored advice on how to obtain all the best books, articles and information that you will need for your modules, and how to reference your work correctly.

Our PASS scheme gives you an opportunity to work together and discuss your learning with higher year students.

Develop your academic skills

We are a university with an outstanding research record and ethos and place great emphasis on supporting our students to develop effective learning and research strategies. If you want to brush-up on your general academic, writing, research and mathematical skills then the Academic Skills Centre has a range of development and support options available to you, from 1-1 and drop-in sessions, face-to-face workshops or on-line resources.

So, make it your mission to get to know us, and the expert services we offer. We're here to help and support you throughout your studies.

Just Ask!

If you have a question why not speak to a librarian with our online chat facility?

Tell us what you think...

...we want to hear from you

Tell us about your experience of using our new intranet pages. Did you find what you were looking for? Have you learnt something new today? Or do you wish we could improve your intranet experience?

Developing these intranet pages will be ongoing and, if you share your view and ideas, it will help us to continue to improve this important resource for the benefit of the entire University community.

We also welcome your comments on university internal communications in general. Email the team or pick up the phone 0121 414 6680. You can also tweet us. Whichever way you decide to get in touch we look forward to hearing what you have to say.

If you have a technical question you can contact our IT colleagues as they are much better at that stuff than we are!
