If you live in Birmingham and receive a letter regarding Council Tax payment, it is important that you contact Birmingham City Council directly. You should act immediately and call them as soon as possible on 0121 303 1113.
Students and council tax
Council Tax is a charge on households and helps to pay for services provided by local authorities. Full-time students living in University halls of residence are automatically exempt from paying this charge. Most full-time students living in private accommodation will also be exempt, but you must apply for this exemption – it is not automatic!
It is also essential that you understand the criteria by which council tax discounts are granted and do not assume that you automatically qualify for exemption, so please ensure that you read the following links carefully:
