Reflexivity is a method used by researchers to increase transparency and rigour into their research and decrease subjectivity and bias. The method sees the researcher ‘position’ themselves within their research and use techniques to understand influence, increase self awareness and insight.

This session will explore reflexivity and how it may benefit researchers. The session will use relevant literature and examples across disciplines to learn more about the technique and ways of employing it. These include reflexive diaries and poetry, which may also be used to help improve empathy and understanding towards research participants.

The session will include the encompassing theory of interpretation, practical elements and group discussions.

The session is open to postgraduate researchers at the University of Birmingham.
