Three Minute Thesis 2016 Final

3MT 2016 Final

 

Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition challenges doctoral researchers to present a compelling oration on their thesis topic and its significance in just three minutes. Following a competitive process, 10 researchers managed to go through the University Graduate School's 3 Minute Thesis final on 9 June 2016.

Winners

After careful consideration, the judges awarded the following prizes:

  • Birmingham Winner: Mathew Schofield (EPS - Physics and Astronomy)
    Thesis title: Asteroseismic Predictions for the TESS satellite
  • Runner up: Yongjing Wang (EPS – Mechanical Engineering)
    Thesis title: Sustainable self-healing composite materials

 

Congratulations to our winner and thank you to all our postgraduate researchers who took part in this year’s competition.

The winner of the Birmingham competition will go forward to the UK-wide 3MT semi-final, and to compete for one of six places in the UK final at the Vitae Annual Conference.

The Birmingham winner will also go through to the Universitas 21 virtual 3MT final which will be judged at the end of October. The final will include research students from across the globe and will take place virtually via video entries. 3MT videos will be available on our website soon.
