The Bookshop on the Green competition with Terms and Conditions:

The Bookshop on the Green is the nearest bookshop to campus and offers a 10% discount to students and staff at University of Birmingham. This week is Independent Bookshop Week and to celebrate we're giving away this fantastic bundle of books signed by these brilliant Birmingham authors!

  • The Transition by Luke Kennard, UoB Professor of Creative Writing, winner of the 2022 Forward Prize for Poetry 
  • The Crossing by Brum YA award-winning writer Manjeet Mann 
  • Wrong Place, Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister. Out this Thursday, this thrilling Groundhog Day page-turner is the summer read of 2022.
  • Hidden Walks of Birmingham by Rob Anckorn
  • Hourglass by Keiran Goddard 

Who wouldn't be proud to have these awesome titles on their shelf? 

Simply answer this question: 

Which famous Birmingham landmark inspired JRR Tolkien to create the tower of Orthanc, the black tower of Isengard, in his The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Submit your answer.

Terms and Conditions 

  • Open to UK residents aged 18 and over only.
  • The competition will be open from 00:00 on Wednesday 22 June 2022 until 23:59 Sunday 10th July 2022.
  • One winner will be selected at random from all eligible entries.
  • The winner will receive the bundle of books described in the competition entry. The prize cannot be exchanged for money or any other product.
  • The prizewinner must collect their bundle of books by Birmingham authors from The Bookshop on the Green, Bournville Hub, 27 Sycamore Road, Bournville, B30 2AA. Call 01214727989 or email hello@bookshoponthegreen.com to arrange a date and time, and bring ID. Please note The Bookshop on the Green is open 9am-3pm Wednesdays - Saturdays.
  • Postage and packaging must be paid by the competition winner if they want the prize posted to them. 
  • The winners will be notified by University of Birmingham after the closing date of Sunday 19 June.
  • The winner will have 21 days following initial contact to claim the prize.
  • If for any reason any aspect of this promotion is not capable of running as planned, including by reason of infection by computer virus, network failure, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or any cause beyond the control of the Promoter which corrupts or affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this promotion, the Promoter may in its sole discretion cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the promotion, or invalidate any affected entries.
  • The Promoter will only use the personal details supplied for promotional purposes and for no other purpose, unless we have your consent. Your personal details will at all times be kept confidential and in accordance with the latest Data Protection legislation.  By participating in the Promotion, you agree to the use of your personal data as described here.
