Green Community Move In

September 2017 welcomed the second year of residents at the Green Community. Here, likeminded students live together, all sharing a passion for sustainability.

All 184 students moved in without a hitch this year- the new swipe door access to the flats meant that the moving in process was smoother than ever. With the help of student ambassadors and members of staff from both Accommodation and Environmental Services, the new residents and their families were unpacked in record time.

All flats were given welcome packs that the students will find come in handy. Everything from eco- friendly shower timers, eco-board games and mini plant growing kits were included. Soon, the students will be eating their own-grown vegetables for dinner!

As more and more students arrived, the ‘community’ feel that the Green Community is known for started to develop. Students almost instantly formed friendships as they found they had shared interests and got along with each other from the first day. Soon after moving in, flatmates went out to explore the unique features that the accommodation has to offer, such as the courtyard, 272 solar panels, 12 apple trees, the social room, bird boxes, communal growing areas, living walls and more. In the evenings the residents got to know each other and have a chat over a free slice of pizza.

We are excited for the new ideas and initiatives from this year’s residents and hope that the community inspires students all across the University to live in a more environmentally friendly way.
