Keeping your bicycle secure

Now that you have your bike, we want you to be seen on it and to keep it!  West Midlands Police, BUBUG and the University are working together to help you do this.

To help you hang on to your bicycle, locks are available at a subsidised price of £17 for staff and students at the University and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham on production of a valid ID card. The locks are currently MasterLock GOLD standard Sold Secure.  As of November 2014 we have 210mm (8195DPRO) and 280mm (8195DPROCOLWB) long locks (see photo adjacent).  Please note that the colours may vary from those shown here!  Searching for these on the internet, they seem to be called MasterLock Street Fortum.

If you are interested in what an insurance company is currently (August 2014) recommending, then E&L Insurance's FAQ list has an entry indicating what their approved locks are.  This will give you an idea of what to look for when you go shopping.

Security coding is changing too - from SelectaMARK to Imnmobilise

Where can I get my bike security coded and buy a lock?
D-locks are available from the University's Security Office reception. This office is on the sports-pitch side of the Aston Webb building. Payment should be in cash and purchasers should bring their University ID card with them.
