Doing your own cycle maintenance

Whilst not all of us are going to be able (or want!) to strip hubs down and grease the bearings, there are simple maintenance tasks we can all do.  Here are some tips and links to useful sites:

Bike Maintenance for Beginners - from Central Park Bike Rental

MadeGood videos to talk you through the steps whist you watch.

Bicycle repair and maintenance from the BikeWebSite.

An excellent bicycle repair guide with text and videos from Alex Ramon.

Bicycle repair articles from Sheldon Brown.

Repair guides and service manuals from Total Bike.

The Bicycling Life web site has a good well illustrated article on how to fix a flat tyre (a common cycle maintenance task) and Bicycle Universe has another equally well illustrated article on the same topic.

If you want to get your bike checked over after carrying out your own repairs, head over to your local Halfords and they’ll perform a bike assessment free of charge.
