LGBT Rainbow Network
The LGBT Rainbow Network was launched by the Vice Chancellor and Principal in 2010. Our aims are to provide a space for staff who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans or queer/questioning - and friends of these communities - to meet and to develop an interesting and enjoyable programme of events and activities. We report back to the University through the Diversity Forum.
The Rainbow Network is also an informal point of contact for LGBT issues that may arise in the workplace, such as bullying and harassment. Acting in complete confidentiality, the Rainbow Network will signpost members to specific services available to LGBT members of staff, both internal and external to the University. The Rainbow Network can also point members towards colleagues within their own college or department who can help.
We hope that you will come along to some of our events, and also feel able to contribute ideas for things that you would like to see happening with this group. Feel free to email us any time at firstname.lastname@example.org with thoughts, ideas and suggestions or to be added to our mailing list and receive regular updates on meetings and events.
Benjamin Goodwin, (Convenor of the Network).
Benjamin Goodwin - I am the University’s International Media Relations Manager, based within External Relations. Previous to this, I have worked as the Digital Marketing and Communications Officer in External Relations and Marketing Assistant at the Barber Institute of Fine Arts. However, my time at the University began back in 2003, when I began undergraduate study here and I welcomed the support and tolerance this diverse institution offered me as a student.
It was from this support that I became driven to return to the University in a professional role and I am now thrilled to be in this convenor role within the Rainbow Network.
Throughout February 2015 we’ll
be celebrating LGBT History
Month across our Edgbaston campus with a jam-packed programme of events and
activities for all. Please visit www.birmingham.ac.uk/lgbt2015
