LGBT Rainbow Network

About us

The LGBT Rainbow Network was launched by the Vice Chancellor and Principal in 2010. Our aims are to provide a space for staff who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans or queer/questioning - and friends of these communities - to meet and to develop an interesting and enjoyable programme of events and activities. We report back to the University through the Diversity Forum.

We hope that you will come along to some of our events, and also feel able to contribute ideas for things that you would like to see happening with this group. Feel free to email us any time at lgbtq@contacts.bham.ac.uk with thoughts, ideas and suggestions or to be added to our mailing list and receive regular updates on meetings and events.

Best wishes,
Donna Harris and Benjamin Goodwin, (Joint Convenors of the Network).

Donna Harris - Director of Creative Media, responsible for the University's design, print and media productions. I have worked at the University in a variety of roles since 2000, having come from a background working in independent design studios and as a freelance designer. I am a member of Stonewall and take an active interest in all LGBT and equality related issues.

I am proud advocate of the work collectively achieved by the diverse community at the University and look forward to taking on the joint convenor role with Ben. We are committed to building on the great foundation David and Sue have achieved by setting up the LGBT staff group and making campus a more welcoming place for our LGBT staff, students and visitors.

Benjamin Goodwin - I am the University’s Digital Marketing and Communications Officer, based within External Relations. Previous to this, I worked as the Marketing Assistant at the Barber Institute of Fine Arts. However, my time at the University began back in 2003, when I began undergraduate study here and I welcomed the support and tolerance this diverse institution offered me as a student.

It was from this support that I became driven to return to the University in a professional role and I am now thrilled to take on this convenor role within the Rainbow Network. I hope that myself and Donna can continue the fantastic work done by David and Sue during their tenure.
