Campaigns and Reputation

The Campaigns and Reputation team is responsible for all aspects of the main public-facing channels of the University, and works to maintain and grow Birmingham’s reputation, with a particular focus on building a strong academic reputation that reflects the quality of the University’s research.

Reputation and Profile Raising

We lead on developing reputational and profile-raising campaigns, working collaboratively to communicate research excellence and impact in engaging and innovative ways. This includes creating and strategy development for the University's 'Birmingham Heroes' campaigns.

Website

The team oversees centrally managed areas of the University website, including the homepage, and works on strategic projects such the redevelopment of the Research section of the external site. They also provide web content for central campaigns and offer web support and expertise to other areas of the university.

Social Media

We maintain the University's central social media channels and oversee the tone of voice, style and brand guidelines for anyone using social media on behalf of the University of Birmingham. Our channels are:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter – we post items on the @UniBirmingham Twitter channel as well as the @News_UB channel, which focuses on press stories and major achievements in research.
  • Instagram and Instagram Stories
  • LinkedIn
  • YouTube
  • Weibo and WeChat – (popular channels in China). We curate a cross-stakeholder content plan, which is implemented via a digital agency who post in Mandarin Chinese

We curate a content calendar to use across these channels - if you want to submit an item to be considered for inclusion visit the How to Submit Content section of the Digital Resources toolkit. We cannot guarantee that everything requested will be posted.

The team also convenes the Social Media Huddle, where digital marketing leads from across the University meet once a month to share updates and best practice.

Digital Content

Our Digital Content Officers make a wide range of content, including graphics, video and animation material, and provide expertise on best practice and branding for digital content. The team convenes the 'Digital Content Creators Meetup', a Community of Practice for Content Creators across the University. If you are interested in joining this Community of Practice, please email Harriet Evetts.

Brand

We work on embedding and evolving the brand across the University, including leading the 'Invigorating our Identity' strategic project that will ensure that our brand reflects the essence and wider aspirations of a world-class University.
