Auto-enrolment arrangements for casual workers

(including Visiting Lecturers, Small Group Teachers etc)

New legislation requires, subject to certain conditions, that employers must auto-enrol their workers into a qualifying pension scheme. The University is required to implement this from 1 March 2013 for academic and related workers and from 1 April 2013 for support workers. 

From this date, in order to decide whether the worker needs to be auto-enrolled, the following information will be required for each week of the hire period in advance of the worker beginning work: 

  • details of the work
  • the intended work period
  • the worker’s expected working pattern and pay

The University is in the process of implementing software to assist in the process of commissioning casual work. It is expected that this software will be available form June 2013 and its use will be compulsory fom 1st August 2013.
