Potential conflicts of interest

HR and Legal Services have developed a suite of documents to enable staff to manage their University duties along with their external interests so as to avoid any misunderstandings where conflict may otherwise occur. This includes guidance on outside activities for academic staff.

Conflicts of interest

This document sets out when a potential conflict of interest may occur, and the appropriate way to handle one.

Bribery and corruption

It is the policy of the University that all staff and students conduct business in an honest way, and without the use of corrupt practices or acts of bribery to obtain an unfair advantage.

Use of University assets

The University's assets must only be used for its charitable purpose. This document explains the legal aspects and consequences of this duty.

Outside activities

Appendix 7 to the conditions of employment for Academic staff makes it clear that Academic staff are encouraged to undertake relevant outside activities, provided this does not conflict with their University duties.

The guidelines below are intended to help staff determine whether their activities should be classed as outside activities, and how to manage these if so. Such activities are not restricted to consultancy work. However, where consultancy is involved, staff are recommended to use the services of Alta Innovations Ltd.
