Where to get help

  • IT Service Desk is the first point of contact for most IT Services support queries.
  • IT Training and support - Offering training and support for staff, researchers and students in the areas of IT Services and ITS Applications

Forgotten password

  • IT Services have a service called Password Manager which allows you to manage your own passwords.
  • Click the link in your left hand menu in Servicenow entitled Change Password or visit https://my.password.bham.ac.uk and register with this service by completing your questions and answers profile.
  • IT Service Desk provides details of what to do if you have forgotten your username or want to reset your password by phone.

Key student systems

  • my.bham provides online information and services that are appropriate to you in your role at Birmingham. All students must register/re-register once a year through my.bham. Some services, such as exam timetables, past papers and results are available exclusively in my.bham
  • Canvas - The TEL Hub team is part of Academic Services not IT Services and manages the Canvas VLE (Virtual Learning Environment).
  • Library collections - Library Services are part of Academic Services not IT Services. IT Services manages the digital library infrastructure.
  • Email - For help and advice go to IT Service Desk. Select the Knowledge Base from the left hand menu and search on ‘email’.
  • Office 365 email for students A cloud based email service that allows you to download the latest version of Office and access other features. This is now the main University email service for UG and PGT students.
  • Password Manager - IT Services have introduced a new service called Password Manager which allows you to manage your own passwords through https://my.password.bham.ac.uk
  • UoB mobile apps - free official University of Birmingham apps available for iPhone, iPad and Android phones and tablets. Campus map, library account, PC availability, staff directory, news, pocket guide and more. 

Access to PCs

Keeping secure and protected

  • Security/viruses - For help and advice go to IT Service Desk. Select the Knowledge Base from the left hand menu and search on ‘security’ or ‘virus’.
  • Back IT up - You should ideally back up everything if you have the disk space. If not, then you should at least back up everything you have created or purchased. More information available from Knowledge Base article KB12381
