How are the charges applied?
Most printing devices are now available with the option to print in colour. When choosing to print in colour you will only be charged the colour price rate for the colour pages within the document, the rest of the pages will be charged at the standard black and white rate. This enables assignments and large documents to be printed without splitting the work into separate black and white and colour print jobs.
When you click Print your document is sent to SafeQ ready to be released from any accessible SafeQ enabled MFD. Your print job will not be charged until you release your job. At the MFD you can also choose to delete any unwanted documents without charge.
To print an 11 page A4 document that consists of 3 colour and 8 black and white sides the breakdown of charging is as follows:
10 black and white duplex sides (20p) and 1 black and white single side (4p) giving a total charge of 24p for the whole document.
Select Auto Color:
3 colour duplex sides (30p), 7 black and white duplex sides (14p) and 1 mono single side (4p) giving a total charge of 48p for the whole document.

Within the print properties select the Quality tab and from the Resolution drop down list choose 1200dpi.
Please note that the standard 600dpi setting will generally reproduce a better likeness of pictures due to the colour depth it is capable of

How do I change from colour to black and white at the printer?
Touch the button next to your document name ... >> and then touch Print Settings and then Color Mode, within this select BW. Once the setting is changed touch Cancel and navigate back to your document, select and print the document which will now be output in black and white and charged at the black and white price.
Where can I print quickly?
There are dedicated PCs with limited login time of 20 minutes, these are located around the Resource Zones on the ground and first floors of the Main Library. These offer a quick turnover of users to allow a chance to access documents to print and other short term operations.
What happens if I get a new ID card?
With your new ID card, present it to any Konica Minolta MFD and it will prompt you for your current university username and password, once entered this will now ensure your latest ID card is associated with your printing account (this is a one-time operation per ID card)
Printing from Mobile Devices
To print from a mobile device there is a single interface that allows this, available from any University WiFi connection.
Login using your standard university username and password, click on 'Upload New Print Job' which will allow you to browse to the document you wish to print out. Once uploaded, the job can be released at any publicly accessible MFD.
Please note: If the document contains colour the default is to charge for all colour pages within it at the colour rate. You can print the document black and white by changing the job properties at the Konica Minolta MFD. Touch the button next to your document name ... >> and then touch Print Settings and then Color Mode, within this select BW. Once the setting is changed touch Cancel and navigate back to your document, select and print the document which will now be output in black and white and charged at the black and white price.
Some PDF documents with high definition images included may be charged at the colour rate. This is because to reproduce the quality, a combination of colour toners are used. If the quality is not essential please use a student cluster PC and use UoB Secure Print (standard) which defaults to mono printing.
If you require simplex output (other than for a single page) the system currently forces duplex operation, so the best option is to use a student cluster PC and use UoB Secure Print (standard) which allows simplex to be selected in the print properties.
To print multiple copies of your document, touch the button next to your document name ... >> and then touch Print Settings and then Copy Count, within this select the number of copies required on the keypad
Please do not upload zipped documents or folders to Mobile Print as the system will reject it. Upload the document itseIf which will then be processed ready for release at a printer.
