DEFORM v11.1.1

The sysweld/sysworld suite of software is used for welding simulation.

Accessing the software

To load the module:

$ module load apps/deform/v11.1.1

An example command to include in your job script:

(full path to the 2d solver)

DEFORM is only supported using the csh shell, the default shell on BlueBEAR is bash. The module load should work over both bash and csh, however when running a simulation job, you need to ensure that your ~/.cshrc file contains the line

module load apps/deform/v11.1.1

Accessing Previous Versions

Wherever possible, previous versions of this application will be retained for continuity, especially for research projects that require a consistent version of the software throughout the project. Such versions, however, may be unsupported by IT Services or the applications vendor, and may be withdrawn at short or no notice if they can no longer run on the cluster - for example, essential operating system upgrades may be incompatible with old versions.

Known Problems & Limitations

DEFORM is only supported using the csh shell. If you get an error similar to:

DEF_CVT: Command not found

please check that you have configured your ~/.cshrc file correctly (see the top of this page).

Before running a DEFORM simulation on BlueBEAR, you will need to build a simulation using the graphical application on your own workstation.

You are advised to only run complete simulations on BlueBEAR - it is advised that you do not attempt to run a simulation that has been partially executed and stopped on another system (i.e. if you have partially run a simulation on a Windows machine, it is advised that you recreate the simulation for use on BlueBEAR rather than trying to run the partially completed simulation).

DEFORM contains its own simulation server engine, this is not used nor configured to run with BlueBEAR, all simulations submitted to BlueBEAR should be completed using the sbatch command.

Other Information

The Support Level for this software is P2.

The DEFORM graphical application is installed and can be used for preparing simulations, it can also be used for viewing the progress of a simulation as simulation processes interact with the DEFORM license server. It should not be used to starting simulations and simulations should not be executed on a logon node.

The licenses for this software are purchased by a specific research group within the University and are not generally available. The software is protected such that only members of the authorised access group can access both the software and the module file.

If you require access to the software, please contact the IT Service Desk for details. We will then put you in touch with the relevant research group who may provide access to licenses.
