MICRESS v6.302

MICRESS® - the MICRostructure Evolution Simulation Software - is a software enabling the time- and space-resolved calculation of microstructure formation, especially in metallurgical systems. The software is based on a generalized multiphase-field concept for multiphase and multicomponent systems (see J.Eiken, B.Böttger, I.Steinbach, 2006). The historic grounds of the used phase-field concept were developed by ACCESS scientists in 1995 (see I.Steinbach, F.Pezzolla, B.Nestler, M.Seeßelberg, R.Prieler, G.J.Schmitz, J.L.L.Rezende, 1995). The core module which includes phase-field and diffusion modelling is combined with fluid flow, stress and temperature modules. The software is maintained and distributed by ACCESS e.V., a non-profit research center at the Aachen University of Technology (RWTH).

Micress has been funded on this service by a specific research group and is not generally available; this help page has been made available for information only.

Accessing the software

To load the module:

$ module load apps/micress/v6.302

An example command to include in your job script:

$ MICRESS_TQ9_x64 <.dri file>

Example: MICRESS Job

An example can be found at ${BB_EXAMPLES}/MICRESS/v6.302/sbatch.sh. The example can be copied to a test directory and submitted to the batch system using sbatch.

$ cp -r ${BB_EXAMPLES}/MICRESS/v6.302 ~/micress-test
$ cd ~/micress-test

Edit the sbatch.sh script according to your needs, then do:

$ sbatch sbatch.sh

Accessing Previous Versions

Wherever possible, previous versions of this application will be retained for continuity, especially for research projects that require a consistent version of the software throughout the project. Such versions, however, may be unsupported by IT Services or the applications vendor, and may be withdrawn at short or no notice if they can no longer run on the cluster - for example, essential operating system upgrades may be incompatible with old versions.

At present there are no previous versions of this application on the BlueBEAR service.

Known Problems & Limitations

  • The graphical components of MICRESS (e.g. the post-processor) can only be run on the logon nodes.

Licensing Issues

The licenses for this software are only accessible by members of the School of Metallurgy and Materials.

If you require access to the software, please contact the IT Service Desk for details. We will then check that you are in the appropriate department before giving access to the software.
