Introductory Statement

Facilities management is about supporting the University’s core activities by managing the services and physical resources that are key to its business success, in an integrated and co-ordinated way.

I started work at the University in 1985 as Deputy Manager of a Hall of Residence and have never looked back. Over the years I managed to develop my professional capabilities and experience by moving around the University departments.

My current role as College Facilities Manager encompasses multi-disciplinary activities within the built environment and the management of their impact upon the people. Summed up quite simply, the University own the buildings; staff and students occupy them; facilities managers make them work. Effective facilities management is vital to the success of the College and the University. It contributes to the delivery of the strategic and operational objectives, but on a day to day level, it provides a safe and efficient working environment.
