The combination of new systems functionality such as automated workflows and the replacement of paper forms with electronic ones attached to the individual student record will reduce the amount of “transactional” activity many Professional Services staff need to do.
This, combined with simplified processes, will free up time for staff to spend on other areas of work, including more time analysing and using data rather than inputting it, and more face-to-face interactions with the students and academic colleagues they support.
The increased time available for staff to provide more personalised support will in turn help to improve students’ satisfaction with our administrative services.
Standardisation of many processes and changes to the management of curriculum data will give staff greater confidence in the data they use, and therefore enable more effective reporting and decision making across the University.
Part of the StARS+ remit will be to consider how to help staff to develop the skills needed to capitalise on these changes, and the opportunities they may unlock for career development within the University.
