We are committed to making sure your return to Birmingham is as safe and smooth as possible. Here you'll find guidance on moving back into accommodation from Community Living and tips for if you need to self-isolate.
An update for international students
With travel restrictions still in place, we understand many international students are concerned about returning to the UK or what to do if they are unable to return and how this may affect their visa.
We are planning for every eventuality given the uncertainties, and we know you will be trying to make your plans too. We very much hope the situation allows as many of you as possible to join us on campus so that you can access as many aspects of the wider student experience as possible. However, we are also extending our welcome back period for new students – so that whenever you are able to get to us, you can be sure of a warm Birmingham welcome. For new and returning students, the options you have for the first semester are:
- Arrive at the start of the semester as originally planned
- Start online and arrive on campus at any time during the first semester to suit you
- Or study the first semester all online.
Whatever you choose you can be reassured that we are planning to support you to begin your studies wherever you are, whenever you can get to us, and whatever happens with the pandemic. Please read the latest update for international students for more information.
Moving back into accommodation
With many of you due to move into privately rented accommodation before the start of the semester. Read these tips from Community Living on moving into your new home and staying safe and protected.
Travelling to the UK
For students travelling from overseas, a range of measures have been put in place to support you and to help ensure that you arrive safely, so that you can focus on your studies and student experience.
Currently, students returning to the UK are required to self-isolate for a period of 14 days unless they are travelling from a country which is listed in Coronavirus (COVID-19) travel corridors (for England).
When returning to the UK it is important you pack essential items with you, to allow you to self-isolate upon your arrival, please refer to the Government guidelines on self-isolation before travelling. During this period you'll be able to access a range of support and services online. You will also be able to experience Birmingham and take part in many activities online during self-isolation, visit the virtual Birmingham and beyond page for more information.
The University has also organised online activities including a book club and fitness classes for students self-isolating.
