We promised to keep in contact with you all throughout the (“normal”) vacation period as we have important information and updates to share.  Throughout all of this extraordinary and uncertain period, wherever you are in the world, we hope that you are keeping safe and well and adjusting to all of the restrictions on our daily lives.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION for UG and PGT Finalists re the Summer Exam and Assessment Period -

Last week, on Tuesday 24th March, we issued a statement from the Pro-Vice-Chancellor Education, Professor Kathy Armour, on our planning for the summer examination and assessment period.  In this detailed message we assured all final year students that we would provide further information this week and that is now available.

A detailed update for all finalists is now available here.

You can find copies of all our previous messages at our webpages here.

For students at all other levels of study –

We are continuing to develop our more detailed advice for all non-final-year students and, as stated in our previous communications, this information will be available after the Easter vacation period.  In the meantime you should continue working to complete outstanding coursework assessments for individual modules and you will need to refer to the most recent local information from your programmes about deadlines and any extensions or alternative arrangements.

Other information for students:

For students in receipt of the Chamberlain Award:  Chamberlain Awards are scheduled to be paid as usual.

The second instalment payments due at the start of May will be paid as normal.

For students who work via Worklink:

The current policy for COVID-19 payments for Worklink Casual Workers covers the period up until 9 April. For the period beyond 9 April, we are currently working through government guidance and awaiting further information. We understand that our Casual Workers are looking for guidance on this and will update you as soon as possible. In the meantime please ensure that you submit any timecards relating to the current policy by 5 May.

Worklink FAQs can be found here and we have also created a Guide for Casual Workers on how to process your COVID-19 related payments for the period up until 9 April.

For all students:   The Universities Minister, Michelle Donelan MP, has published a letter to all students in the UK which you can read here.

Financial Support for Students:

The Student Support Fund is OPEN to ALL current students, regardless of nationality, level of study or whether you study part time or full time. The fund may be able to support you if you are struggling financially as a result of current global events. Further information, application details and terms and conditions are available here. Our staff are still working to respond to queries and process applications.

Supporting Your Wellbeing:

While we have suspended all of our in person support, the Wellbeing Officers in your Schools and Colleges are still working remotely to answer your general queries. You can find their contact details here.

Our Mental Health & Wellbeing Service is suspended at the moment but the team are continuously developing new resources to support you where you are and our new webpages provide helpful links to finding services near you, and access to our self-help guides.

Our PAUSE Mental Health partners have just launched a new telephone service for UoB students if you need to talk to someone about your mental health – you can find more information here. The service will be operational between the hours of 10am – 6pm, 7 days a week and is open to anyone who requires help.

And if you prefer to text then we are recommending the SHOUT Text Service for anyone who needs immediate help 24/7.

To all our students:  Thank you!

Thank you for your patience, understanding and cooperation during this period.  Thank you to all the students, particularly those in the health professions, who have been volunteering and working to support the NHS.  Thank you to the Guild of Students who have set up a virtual neighbourhood to keep us all connected. Thanks to all the volunteers, the community groups and thanks for the support you have shown for each other…

We will continue to keep in contact throughout the vacation period – and we expect to issue a further update to all students next week.

Thank you - stay safe and well – and Happy Easter!

From the Student Communications Team.
