Bramall Music Building

Bramall interiorThe Bramall is the University’s very own music hall, boasting world-class acoustics. It hosts regular events including comedy nights, classical and contemporary music, spoken word and dance. You can get all this for significantly reduced student prices and some events are available for free.

Barber Institute of Fine Arts

BarberThe Barber is a hidden gem, tucked away on the east of Edgbaston Campus. Its collections comprise of around 150 major paintings, more than 800 drawings and prints, sculptures, decorative art and portrait miniatures. These include works from Monet, Rossetti, Renoir, Turner, Van Gogh and many more.

There is also a regular programme of exhibitions, displays and events. The Barber is completely free to enter and a student discount is available for special events.

The Lapworth Museum of Geology

Lapworth (2)The Lapworth Museum has recently undergone an extensive £2.7 million redevelopment project. From rocks and fossils to volcanoes, earthquakes and even dinosaurs, the Museum allows you to explore life over the past 3.5 billion years.

Winterbourne House and Garden

Winterbourne - Japanese Bridge

Winterbourne is a stunning example of Edwardian life. The house’s exhibition rooms take you through the history of the estate, while the seven acre botanical garden features a beautiful walled garden, woodland walks and plants from around the globe – the perfect place to relax between study sessions.

Winterbourne also has its own tea rooms and gift shop, and hosts a variety of public events throughout the year.

Entry to the house and gardens is free to University of Birmingham students on presentation of your ID card. (Please note, there is a cost for special events).

360 Sport & Fitness – Coming soon

Sport Centre CGIThe University’s new 360 Sport & Fitness offers world-class facilities on your doorstep. Suitable for beginners to elite athletes, the club includes the West Midland’s only 50-metre swimming pool, more than 200 gym stations across two floors, and around 200 classes each week.

Save on tickets to the theatre

George Cadbury HallWitness the talent of our Drama and Theatre Arts students in their season of plays. Productions are performed by third year undergraduates and supported in lighting, sound, design, costume and stage management by second and first year students.

Tickets are available to students at a concessionary price. Visit the Drama and Theatre Arts Department Event webpage to find out what’s on, including adaptions of Homer’s Odyssey and Virginia Woolf’s Orlando.

 

Free laptop loan

Laptops are available to borrow from the University Library for up to four hours free of charge. They are self-service and located in the Library Information Centre. Find out more on the laptop loans intranet page.

Free Shuttle Bus between campuses

A shuttle bus service operates during term time (Monday to Friday) between the Edgbaston and Selly Oak campuses. The service is free on production of your student ID card. View the 2016/17 timetable.

Birmingham Day Nursery

The Elms Day NurseryBirmingham Day Nursery is managed and run by a team of experience childcare professionals at the University. They run two nurseries, The Elms by Edgbaston campus and The Oaks by Selly Oak campus.
