Incident in Selly Oak

In the early hours of this morning, there was a violent incident in Selly Oak. A man was seriously injured. While the victim is not a University of Birmingham student, we are aware that students were in the vicinity of what happened. Our thoughts are with the victim and his family at this difficult time.

The Police are asking anyone with any information on this incident to contact them as a matter of urgency, anonymously if necessary. Full details of the Police statement can be found on the West Midlands Police website

The safety of students is of critical importance, and the University is working closely with the Police and the Guild to respond to safety concerns and will be meeting with Police on Monday morning. While generally Selly Oak is a safe area and incidents of this nature are rare, students are encouraged to be vigilant and look after one another.

Any student affected by the incident or who wants to talk to someone is encouraged to come to the Aston Webb Student Hub.  Our normal drop-in at the Student Hub is available from 13:30 on Monday, but any student affected by this incident can drop-in at any time in the morning and our staff will be able to see them immediately.
