There may be many different reasons why you are concerned about someone you know. These concerns may arise from mental or physical ill health, social isolation, changes in appearance or behaviour, signs of distress or if they go missing.
In situations where a friend’s behaviour or wellbeing causes concern, it is important to make them aware of the support available, encouraging them to seek support.

Student Minds' Look After Your Mate guide
Student Minds, UK’s student mental health charity, have produced a Look After Your Mate guide, which provides practical tips on supporting a friend who may be struggling. The guide offers a lot of advice, from starting a conversation to knowing your own boundaries.
In a crisis please follow our advice on the Urgent Support webpage. If it is an emergency and you or a friend are in a life-threatening situation, you should contact the emergency services by calling 999.
