How can I publish my work as open access?

To make your work open access, you may be able to either:

• Publish in a journal or publishing platform that makes the Version of Record (VoR) immediately open access via its website.
• Deposit a version of your manuscript in an institutional or subject repository at the time of publication (also known as self-archiving).

The peer review and publication process remain the same for both routes, and you should continue to target the most appropriate journal for your work. You will usually be required to sign an agreement with the publisher. Please visit our copyright and open access page for more guidance.

The University strongly encourages all UoB researchers to self-archive published and unpublished work in Pure.
