Accessibility

Our aim is to make the website as usable and accessible as possible, so we hope you can find, access and use the material you're looking for.

Help with seeing our website

The website content is displayed using cascading style sheets (CSS) which means that you can resize the text within the web browser you are using and make it a size that you find easier to read. For more information on how to do this, please see:

Help with hearing our website

Transcripts are available for most centrally produced videos.  If you need a transcript that is not currently available on the website please send a request to internalcomms@contacts.bham.ac.uk

Help with reading our website

We avoid the use of capitalisation and italics for emphasis in our page content as they can make text more difficult to read.

If you find our grey text on white background unsuitable then you can set your own colours to override this within your browser or within your operating system.

For more information on how to do this, please visit:

The font style can also be overridden by the settings in the browser or in your operating system to make it easier for you to read.

Help with navigating our website

All pages contain a link to the home page by clicking on the 'University of Birmingham intranet' logo at the top of the page and all pages include a 'Search the intranet' search box in the top right of the page. Breadcrumbs underneath the search box and left hand menus should help users retrace their steps through the site.

The site map can be found in the footer of every page. You can also email internalcomms@contacts.bham.ac.uk to ask us about any content you have been unable to find.

Future plans

  • We are investigating closed captioning of videos on the site
  • We aim to remove text images and replace with text that can be resized larger if users require - in particular on the home page banner graphic
  • We will be implementing a Quality Assurance module in our Content Management System which warns website editors of accessibility issues on pages so they can be corrected before they are published to the live website

Contact

We continue to make accessibility improvements to our website in response to user feedback. If you have experienced a problem with the website please email your comments/questions to internalcomms@contacts.bham.ac.uk
