We have careers consultants and advisers available in your college to offer you advice and guidance, help you explore your global careers options, identify practical steps in moving forward with your goals and provide feedback on your resume and job applications. In addition we have the following specialist staff, below.

 

Sherma-Johnson-GraySherma Johnson-Gray 

Careers Consultant

Sherma joined the University of Birmingham Dubai in 2022. Before joining she worked as a Careers Consultant in London at universities including London School of Economics and University of Greenwich. Prior to this she worked in roles across Recruitment, Education and Mental Health.

She is qualified with a Masters in Psychology as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Careers Information, Education and Guidance. She is passionate about Diversity, Equality and Inclusion and is a Mental Health First Aider. 

Sherma is passionate about helping students understand and utilise their skills, and is here to support students as they explore their careers options and identify practical steps in moving forward with their goals.

Instructions for having a careers appointment with the UK careers team

  • Careers appointments can only be held through Skype for Business. The use of normal Skype breaches UAE law.
  • You can loan out a laptop from the lockers at the Dubai campus. You will need your ID card to release the laptop. The lockers can be found opposite the computer lab situated on the first floor or room 118 (first floor). 
  • Skype for Business is on each laptop but won’t load automatically, you will need to search for it and sign in using your University email and password. 
  • Your Careers Adviser will call you at the allotted time of your appointment, please do not try to call them.
  • If you want to have an appointment in a private space, please contact the Dubai Campus Operations Team on Dubaiops@contacts.bham.ac.uk to book a room.
