What documents do I need to apply for a short-term study visa?
Your application may be rejected if your documents do not meet the requirements set by UK Visas and Immigration.
You must provide your original passport at your appointment. For other documents, clear scans are required. If any document is not in English or Welsh, you must provide a certified translation that can be independently verified by UKVI.The following documents must be provided specified by the UK government:
- Current Passport: A current passport or other valid travel documentation.
- Financial Evidence: Evidence that you can support yourself during your trip and evidence that you have paid your course fees or have enough money to pay them, for example, bank statements or payslips for the last 6 months.
- Travel and Accommodation Details: Details of where you intend to stay and your travel plans. (Note: The UK government advises that you should not pay for accommodation or travel until you get your visa).
- Tuberculosis (TB) Test Results: A valid TB test certificate if you are from a country where you have to take the test.
- Letter of Acceptance: Written proof of your course of study. This must be a letter from the University of Birmingham confirming the course's name, duration, and cost (including accommodation).
- Certified Translations: An English translation of any document that is not in English or Welsh. This must be dated and include the translator's name, signature, and confirmation that it is an accurate translation of the original.
If you are under 18, you must provide the following additional documents:
- Written Consent: A signed letter of consent for your visa application from both parents (or legal guardians), or just one parent if they have sole responsibility. This letter must confirm:
- Your visa application;
- Your living arrangements and care in the UK; and
- Your travel arrangements to the UK.
- Proof of Living Arrangements: Evidence that you have somewhere suitable to live during your stay, including:
- The name and date of birth of the person you will be staying with;
- The full address where you will be living;
- Details of your relationship to the person who will be looking after you; and
- Written consent from that person agreeing to let you stay with them.

- Previous Study: Evidence of your previous study, for example, academic certificates, references, or transcripts.
