What are my options if I am unhappy with the outcome of my complaint?

If you have exhausted the internal procedures of the University as set out in the Code of Practice on Student Concerns and Complaints you may be able to complain to the Office of the Independent Adjudicator for Higher Education (OIA)

The Codes of Practice, Policies and Guidance documents that apply to you, as a student, will depend upon the year in which you started your studies, this is referred to as Cohort Legislation and is explained further here on our Codes of Practice website.

Under specific circumstances, if you exhausted all other routes but your issue remains unresolved, you may have the opportunity to raise a Grievance to Council. You will always need to have tried all other possibilities before you can raise a Grievance.

Under the Higher Education Act 2004 the University subscribes to the independent scheme for the review of student complaints. Guidance for submitting a complaint to the OIA can be found on its website www.oiahe.org.uk

In order to submit a complaint to the OIA you must request a Completion of Procedures letter from the University within one month of the date of your Senate Review outcome letter.

To request a Completion of Procedures letter please email student-complaints@contacts.bham.ac.uk.
