How do I let the University know I am going to transition?

At the University of Birmingham, we are committed to supporting students who are undergoing a gender transition process, or who have a gender identity outside of the traditional male-female binary.

If you are thinking about transitioning, or require support surrounding gender identity you can contact your Wellbeing Officer. You can then arrange an initial meeting where you will be able to discuss and identify what support you will need. This is a great opportunity for you to raise any questions that you may have, and for the University to accommodate your needs.

Wellbeing Officers and other members of staff at the University are supported by the Student EDI Team to identify suitable support arrangements for students undergoing gender transition or identity issues. This includes change of displayed name on the University's email and other systems, arrangements at field trips, and general campus life queries. This is a great opportunity for you to raise any questions that you may have, and for the University to accommodate your needs.

Further resources and information can be found on our LGBTQ resource page.

The Guild of Students have a LGBTQ+ Students' Officer and a Trans and Non-Binary Students' Officer. For further information, please visit the Officer Team's page.
