How can I apply for support with funding for a full diagnostic assessment for specific learning difficulties (SpLDs) such as dyslexia?

If you have a household income of less than £36,000 and are unable to pay for the assessment yourself, you may be able to obtain up to £325 of financial assistance towards the cost of a full educational psychologist’s or specialist teacher’s assessment for specific learning difficulties.

Please note that funding is not available for updating any previous SpLD documentation, e.g. Form 8 or existing diagnostic assessment reports.

In order to be considered for funding, complete the financial support form, attaching a copy of the outcome of your initial screening, which must be show the outcome as either "borderline" or "at risk". Please note that a checklist on its own is insufficient.

The University will use your screening results solely for the purpose of determining eligibility for funding. We will make no representation as to the accuracy or otherwise of the results themselves.

The maximum award is £325. The full cost of the assessment may be more than this. If your application for support is successful, you will need to fund any additional costs.

It takes around two weeks for us to reach a decision about the funding. An email regarding this will be sent to your University email account, with any award being paid directly into your bank account.

If you do not qualify for financial assistance, it is your responsibility to cover the whole cost of the full diagnostic assessment. Assessments may cost between £300 and £600.
