How do I confirm my place at my graduation ceremony?
If you are in your final year of study (or your first graduate-able year of study), you will be invited to confirm your graduation preference online via www.my.bham.ac.uk. When you receive this invitation, log onto the my.bham portal to confirm how you would like to graduate.
You will be sent an email inviting you to the next round of Degree Congregations in September (for December Degree Congregations) or in January (for July Degree Congregations).
There will be four options available:
- Graduate in person by attending a Degree Congregation
- Graduate in your absence and have your certificate and transcript posted to you
- Defer your graduation until the next round of Degree Congregations
- Reply to confirm that you will not have completed your studies in time to graduate at the next round of Degree Congregations
Emails are sent to all email accounts registered with the University, so make sure you check your emails regularly (including the spam folder) during this time. For more information about confirming your graduation preference, please refer to our website.
Please note, only students who successfully complete a degree programme at the University of Birmingham can attend a Degree Congregation. Communications about your Degree Congregation do not confirm successful completion of your degree and should not be taken as proof that you are eligible to graduate. We issue an invitation to attend a Degree Congregation to all students who might be ready to graduate by the next round of Degree Congregations. As such, you may receive an invitation and yet not be eligible to graduate by the time of the ceremony (if, for example, you have not yet submitted your dissertation, you have not paid all of your tuition fees, or you are resitting any examinations). You can access your official progress and examination results online through the 'Online Results' channel in the 'My Exams' tab of the student portal. Please note that there are additional requirements for research students. You can find out more by reading the Terms and Conditions for attending your Degree Congregation.
