Why do I need to register to vote on the Birmingham Electoral Register?

If you live in Birmingham and haven't registered on the Electoral Register in Birmingham or have moved house recently and need to re-register in Birmingham, please consider doing this now whilst you continue to settle into university life.

The University of Birmingham are working in partnership with Birmingham’s Elections Office to ensure Students are registered on the Electoral Register. Electoral Registration is a legal requirement and will also ensure you can vote and have your say in referendums, national and local elections.

As part of your enrolment with the University, if your home or term-time address is within a Birmingham ward you are asked to register on the Birmingham Electoral Register.

If you are a British, or a Commonwealth or Republic of Ireland citizen you are entitled to register and to vote in elections in Britain. Citizens of European Union states are entitled to register to vote in local and European elections.
