BMJ Publishing: fully OA journals (funded authors only)

BMJ Publishing has an open access publishing agreement with the University of Birmingham. It allows funded University of Birmingham affiliated corresponding authors (subject to eligibility criteria listed below) to publish open access at no additional cost in fully OA titles.

Eligibility criteria

  • Only articles funded by the following funders are eligible to publish in the fully OA titles covered in this agreement:
    • UKRI
    • Wellcome Trust
    • British Heart Foundation
    • Blood Cancer UK
    • Cancer Research UK
    • Parkinson's UK
    • Versus Arthritis
  • The article's corresponding author must be affiliated to the University of Birmingham, and ensure their @bham.ac.uk email address is used on submission to the journal.
  • Any additional page, colour or other charges will not be covered through this agreement or the open access budget.

Next steps

If you meet the eligibility criteria for this agreement, you can submit to the journal. On acceptance, remember to create a record in Pure and link to any funding acknowledged on the paper.

If you are an unfunded author and therefore not eligible for this agreement, funds may be available to pay an Article Processing Charge (APC) in your chosen journal. To check this, complete an APC request form before submission and we will inform you whether funds are available to pay the APC.

If your funding does not come from the funders listed above, check our funder pages to see if you can apply for OA costs directly from your funder.

If you are uncertain whether you are eligible for this agreement, please complete an APC request form before submission.
