Workplace health and safety

The University of Birmingham is committed to providing and maintaining a healthy and safe working environment for all its employees, students and any other people who may be affected by its activities. This commitment is expressed in the University's Health and Safety Policy Statement.

The Health and Safety Unit's role is to assist the University in the development and implementation of University Health and Safety Policy and to provide expert advice.

The Health and Safety Unit has scientific and technical expertise provided by professionally qualified advisers. The work of the Unit is directed by Les Wright, Assistant Director of Human Resources (Workplace Wellbeing).

The Unit works closely with other departments in the University, in particular Occupational Health, and with external agencies.
