Programmes Officer (Research Impact)

- Full time starting salary is normally in the range £34,980 to £44,263 with potential progression once in post to £46,974

The Programmes Officer (Research Impact) is responsible for the running and management of the University of Birmingham’s portfolio of institutional impact funds awarded to the University by our strategic funding partners such as UKRI and Research England, including overseeing post-award delivery of funded projects. The post holder will provide authoritative advice to the University and it’s Colleges on the appropriate use of the funding, and the management and delivery of impact supported through the funding. The Programmes Officer (Research Impact) will play a pivotal part in supporting and expanding impact and engagement activity across the University. The Programmes Officer (Research Impact) reports to the Programmes Manager (Research Impact), working closely with the academic leads of the University’s institutional impact funds. The successful candidate will direct institutional impact funding-related activity for other staff, as appropriate.

Head of Research Information and Systems
Position details

The role holder will work closely with the Assistant Director, RSSD (Head of Research Systems and Data) as the business owner responsible for ensuring the delivery of a strong and constantly evolving portfolio of research systems and data support projects, that will be critical to the overall research environment of the University, both for researchers and for the Professional Services staff that support research. They will take a specific leadership role with regard to key systems, including Pure and Worktribe, working closely in this regard with the Colleges and key Professional Services departments including the Library, Planning Office and IT Services, and being a senior colleague and key member of the University’s REF related committees/groups, working closely with senior academics and professional services staff to support research excellence planning and REF submissions.

Research Impact Development Officer (CAL)

The role of Research Impact Development Officer (RIDO) is an exciting opportunity to work with welcoming and supportive colleagues to take our research impact to the next level. It requires an enthusiasm for people, the skill to interact with high-level professionals, academics, and organisations from multiple sectors, along with the ability to passionately translate complex information into a compelling demonstration of research impact.
The post-holder will provide dedicated impact support to academics in the College of Arts and Law (CAL) under the direction of the College’s Research Impact Development Partner (RIDP), working alongside two Research Impact Development Managers (RIDM). The role will rely on close working relationships with academic and other Professional Services colleagues in order to facilitate the organisation and documentation of impact activity. The post-holder will therefore have excellent interpersonal skills and be proactive in establishing effective relationships with academic colleagues from within the School/College and across the University. The post-holder will have strong project management and organisation skills and be proactive in developing and implementing plans to support the collection and organisation of impact documentation, evidence and metrics. The post-holder will also work closely with the College’s research support services on shared areas of work relating to research funding and research operations, and wider University Professional Services teams (e.g. Communications and Press).

The role of Research Impact Development Manager (RIDM) is an exciting opportunity to work with welcoming and supportive colleagues to take our research impact to the next level. It requires an enthusiasm for people, the skill to interact with high-level professionals, academics, and organisations from multiple sectors, along with the ability to passionately translate complex information into a compelling demonstration of research impact.
With two roles available across the College of Social Sciences and the College of Arts and Law (Schools of Law and History and Cultures), post-holders will provide dedicated impact support to academics in their defined area, under the direction of the College’s Research Impact Development Partner (RIDP). Working alongside another Research Impact Development Manager, the post-holder will ensure academics have the knowledge and guidance they need to be able to facilitate, amplify, and evaluate the impact of their research. The role will rely on close working relationships with academic and Professional Services colleagues in the development, organisation and management of impact activity. The post-holder will therefore have excellent interpersonal skills and be proactive in establishing effective relationships with academic colleagues from within the School/College and across the University, including School Impact Leads and School Heads of Research. The post-holder will also work closely with the College’s research support services on shared areas of work relating to research funding and research operations, and wider University Professional Services teams (e.g. Communications and Press, Public Engagement, and Public Affairs). The post-holder will have strong project management skills and be proactive in developing and implementing plans to support the engagement and impact agenda of the College, including identifying new opportunities to increase impact through innovative engagement activities and through building external partnerships and relationships. They will also assist in the development and implementation of strategies for collating evidence relating to impact.
