Panopto: Student Media Submission Guidance

This resource has been created to provide guidance submitting to a media assessment within Panopto. Submitting accompanying documents to a media assessment in Canvas and accessing grades and feedback.

Submitting to a Media Assignment

Follow this guidance to submit your work to your marker correctly.

Panopto is the supported institutional tool for all media upload for media assessments. You will be required to provide a direct link to your video or audio in Panopto, as part of your submission to the Assignment on Canvas.

  1. Access the 'Panopto' link in the Course Navigation menu within your module and click in to the Panopto Assignment Folder. You can also access this folder via the link in the Assignment information.

  1. Once in the Panopto Assignment Folder for the module, click the 'Create' option and select either 'Upload media' to upload a file recorded elsewhere, or 'Panopto Capture' to record a new media file using the Panopto web recorder. Note: Panopto Capture web recorder can be used on any device to capture audio, camera and screen without installing additional software.

  1. Once uploaded, click the 'Share' option on your video (or other media) to copy the sharing link to your clipboard. You will need this to add to your Assignment cover sheet.

  1. Access the 'Assignments' section of your Canvas module and click on the relevant Assignment. Note: If on a mobile device, the following steps should be completed in a browser rather than the Canvas Student app

  1. Use the 'Text entry' tab to display a text box. Click the Panopto icon in the tool bar (you may need to click the 3 vertical dots or plug icon to see this).

  1. Select your uploaded media file and click 'Insert'. Your media file should now be displayed in the text box.

  1. Click 'Submit assignment' to submit the media file part of your submission.
    • You will see the confirmation page confirming the date and the time of submission.  
    • Your submitted file will be displayed at the bottom of your assignment page. The date and time submitted will be at the top. Take a screenshot if required for your own records.
    • If you have submitted the wrong media file, select 'New Attempt', and repeat the steps above to provide the correct media file.

 

Submitting Accompanying Documents to Media Assessment

  1. After submission, your page should refresh, and you will see the assignment page where you can click 'New Attempt' to submit any required documents.
  2. Use the 'Upload' option to submit your cover sheet, include the sharing link to your media file on the cover sheet. Add any other files that are required.

Once submitted you will now see your submitted file(s) at the bottom of the page, with the date and time of submission at the top. Take a screenshot of this if required for your own records.

You will also see in the dropdown 'attempt 2' (depending on how many times you have submitted something). By clicking the dropdown, you can switch between your submitted video and files.

If you wish to, you can download your submitted file using the download button in the top left of the document.

Accessing Grades and Feedback

  1. Once your grades and feedback have been released, you will be able to view these from the same assignment portal you submitted to. Access the portal by clicking on 'assignments' in the course menu and selecting the correct portal.

Your grade will be displayed in the top right along with a 'view feedback' button where you can see any overall comments. Any annotations on your submitted documents will be displayed alongside your file at the bottom of the page.

NB - Feedback is attempt-specific so you may find that you have additional comments on the video submission and the file submission. You can check both by switching the attempt in the dropdown at the top of the page.

Note: To switch between your submitted video and documents, use the 'attempt' dropdown at the top of the page. Your markers may add comments to both parts.
