My Attributes
My Attributes supports all students to review and be rewarded for developing knowledge, skills and attributes necessary for study, work and life.
My Attributes has been developed in consultation with students and is a bespoke University of Birmingham personal development platform hosted on Careers Connect.
How to use My Attributes:
1. Review
Access the assessment section to answer 24 questions to self-audit your skills and attributes. This section should take you about 20 minutes to complete.
Once you have completed the assessment, you will gain a personal overview of the skills and attributes that are your strengths and those that you might seek to develop further.
You can retake the assessment to monitor your progress as many times as you like. To build your history section, you will need to complete two or more assessments to compare your results and progress.
2. Develop
Once you’ve completed the assessment, you’ll gain access to learning pathways for each of the graduate attributes. Access the learning pathways to develop your knowledge and understanding about the graduate attributes through the completion of self-directed online learning activities. Introductory and advanced learning activities are available for you to work through at your own pace.
3. Reward
Complete four attribute reflections on extra-curricular activities you feel have helped you to develop one or more of the graduate attributes and be rewarded by gaining The Birmingham Award on your graduation transcript. By showcasing what you have done at university through The Birmingham Award you will have evidence on your university transcript that you have developed attributes that are highly sought after by employers.
Your reflections will be assessed based on how well you articulate your personal development through the activities you have completed. You could write a reflection on different types of activities you have undertaken that you think have helped you develop one or more of the attributes. For example, you could write about your current or past jobs, about being a Guild or student representative, about taking part in a course or event, about volunteering or taking part in a community event.
Once you have gained The Birmingham Award you will be well placed to complete The Birmingham Award with Distinction or Post-graduate Professional Development Award which will allow you to demonstrate further committment to developing your skills, attributes and overall employability.

Remember, your journey at UoB is more than your course, it’s about growth, learning, and becoming a well-rounded graduate. My Attributes will be your companion in this exciting process!

FAQs
What are Learning Pathways?
Learning Pathways are carefully curated collections of activities and information designed to help you develop your graduate attributes. These pathways are intended to take no longer than 1-2 hours, and they also provide links to longer courses if you want to delve deeper.
I’m not sure how or what activities to log
You can record all curricular and non-curricular activities.
In order to achieve The Birmingham Award though, the four activities declared must be extra-curricular - further information about how to log activities for The Birmingham Award can be found within our guidance document.
I have used the maximum 2000 characters for the reflection but I cannot submit it?
Each reflection will allow you to submit up to 2000 characters (which is approximately 300-500 words). If your reflection includes more characters than 2000 you will be unable to submit.
There is a minimum requirement to submit at least 1000 characters for each reflection (which is approximately 150-250 words).
Unfortunately, this feature is not currently available. However we are working on making this accessible in the near future.
How do I know if my activity has been accepted by The Birmingham Award?
When submitting your reflection you will be prompted to declare whether you would like your activity to be counted towards The Birmingham Award. The team will be reviewing each reflection and will be in touch if your activity cannot be accepted via The Birmingham Award.
Can I still access My Attributes when I graduate?
Yes, once have set up your
graduate account on Careers Connect you will retain access to the content you uploaded during your time as a student.

The Graduate Attributes are a set of skills, behaviours and values that you can develop whilst at the University of Birmingham that will help you develop to flourish in your future life and career.
The Graduate Attributes were developed with insights from students, graduates, employers and staff.
