Please describe your current role and the journey you took to get there.
I work as the Student Experience Academic Intern in the University of Birmingham. My job role requires me to handle various projects held within the College of Social Sciences. As an international student, I had a vague idea about the career opportunities and job applications within the UK.
Did you know what you wanted to do before you started University?
I was not sure what I wanted to do before I started University. However, after getting in touch with the BBS Careers Team and experiencing my time at the University, I understood that I want to start my career with a Higher Education Institution.
Did you have any work experience before your graduated?
No, I do not have any previous work experience.
What do you love most about your role?
I love the fact that my learning journey has not ended with my graduation. The responsibilities within my job role, requires learning a lot of things like handling projects, secretarial duties, etc. My manager is extremely supportive, and I feel very comfortable in my office. Learning new duties and responsibilities is what I love the most in my job.
What is most challenging about your role?
Since it's just my first month in this new role, I am yet to find any major challenges associated with my role.
Have you faced any key challenges during your career journey, if so, how did you overcome them?
As this is my first month of work, I feel I have a long way to go.

What are your career plans for the future?
As I feel comfortable in my workplace, I see myself working for the University of Birmingham in the long term.
What advice would you give to students who are interested in getting into your industry or role, or if they’re unsure what they want to do?
My suggestion to them, is to make use of the Careers team and carry a lot of research, as this is about their future.
What would be your key piece of career advice for a student just entering the employment market?
Always get outside your comfort zone and never give up!
