Careers Network Welcome Video (Video transcript)

Kam Manku, Careers Network Staff: Careers Network is your one-stop shop for everything to improve your employability whilst you’re at university.

Devansh Jhamani, UoB student: I have used a lot of services from the Careers Network team. I have used one-to-one appointments with the help of preparation and also I have used the career planning from the Careers Network team.

Grace Bikerstoff, UoB student: The Birmingham Award is an employability award that helps to develop your interpersonal skills. This stood out on my CV and was recognised by potential employers. It was easy to complete alongside my studies.

Tripti Patel, UoB student: The B-Experience Internship helped me to boost my career, and whatever I’m learning in classes, I’m able to do it practically.

Steph Peters, UoB graduate: I really enjoyed that graduate internship scheme at the University because it really helped me gain some practical work experience in the industry I wanted to work in. I’d done some experience with startup companies before, so I was really looking forward to working in a larger organisation. This is great because it helps me build up my experience to talk about in future interviews.

Louis Morgan, UoB student: The Impact Fund was a fund set up for business ventures. I secured that for a biomedical venture, which was also my dissertation project. The Impact Fund is a perfect resource for getting the business started if you don’t have the financial means to.

Ishita Runda, UoB student: I would recommend Careers Network for any international students or even home students who are a bit confused about how to approach employers. They really know how the UK employment system works and will tell you how to go about the jobs, what time to apply, and what is the hiring season. Careers Network is the right choice for you.

Lalitha Pragnya, UoB student: The most important one is mentorship. We have lots of meetings online, and she always gave me lots of advice and suggestions. She’s always encouraging me.

Kam Manku: We’ve got careers advisors that can discuss your options with you. If you want to get more experience, we’ve got summer internship and volunteering opportunities. Or if you are terrified of interviews, we’ve got advisors that can help you with that.

Steph Peters: As a graduate, I really recommend using the Careers Network while at university, as it’s a great way of investing in your professional development and building up your CV so you really stand out to employers after you graduate. And it’s also a great way of showing that you’re proactive and using your initiative alongside your studies.
